A Christian Drama about the life of William Carey
Being a missionary requires, not just desire and passion for the lost, but perseverance and dedication. The mission field can be a place of isolation and constant challenges, whether its with health, feelings of isolation or learning the language. Missionaries need encouragement and support.
The story of William Carey and his family illuminates these challenges for churches. Known as the ‘father of modern missions’, he created a template that would help others ‘go into all the world and preach the gospel’. However, it would come at great personal cost to he and his family.
He started out as a poor shoemaker and minister in England in the late 18th Century. By the middle of the next century he had become a Professor of Oriental Languages at Ft. William College in Calcutta, India. He also had become a recognized botanist, astronomer, educator and Bible translator; having translated the New Testament into 40 different Indian languages and dialects. He is famous for starting educational instruction in the language of the lower castes; helping to stop sati (widow burning), the sacrificing of infants and the burning of lepers.
“Expect great things from God! Attempt great things for God!” William Carey
